I am a clinician-scientist and medtech innovator focused on high myopia, glaucoma, and retinal diseases. My expertise spans vitreoretinal and glaucoma surgery, AI and genomics-driven ophthalmology, and design thinking / Biodesign-led device development.
I am experienced in Japanese public funding, regulatory and reimbursement strategy (AMED, MHLW), and large-scale multi-institutional research leadership. I am currently developing an adjustable, microfluidic glaucoma implant enabling postoperative titration of IOP.
My research interests include the genetics of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), myopia, glaucoma, and pachychoroid diseases. I have contributed to multiple genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and have published in Ophthalmology, Nature Communications, PNAS.
